Review By: Afgriland Jan/Feb 2011

Our country is home to over 900 bird species of the nearly 9000 bird species recorded worldwide. Remarkable Birds of South Africa presents a fascinating account of local bird families that gives insight into their behaviour, distribution and taxonomy. The book is written in an easy, anecdotal style and is richly illustrated with more than 450 superb full-colour photographs, including information and field observations never before published in popular bird literature.

Whether you're an armchair birder or an avid twitcher, the book gives an overview of the huge variety of birds found right on your doorstep. Take note that it is not meant to be a field guide, but rather attempts to give birders and would-be birders some insights into many of the fascinating aspects of bird behaviour and taxonomy.

The author, Dr Peter le Sueur Milstein, also shares interesting information collected over a lifetime dedicated to nature conservation. During his professional career, he published over 300 scientific and popular contributions. He has authored and co-authored nine other books.
