Review By: Afgriland - Mei/June 2010

It seems that Homo sapiens are not only searching for aliens in outer space, but also in their backyard. In a book by Clive Bromilow, a biologist with a lifelong interest in plants and weeds, guidance is offered on how to recognise, understand and control troublesome plants and alien weeds.

Introductory chapters explain aspects of undesirable vegetation, such as bush encroachment and veld degradation, as well as chemical and biological control techniques and the threat posed by ornamental garden plants. More than 700 colour photographs, up-to-date distribution maps indicating the range of each plant, and a series of icons as well as a 'identification key' all assist in the identification of the plants in such a way that even non-botanists will feel more than equipped to identify and deal with invasive species.

Problem Plants and Alien Weeds of South Africa is also available in Afrikaans as Probleemplante en Indringeronkruide van Suid-Afrika.
