Fanie holds an M. Sc. From the University of Natal, South Africa and a PhD in plant systematics from the Victoria University of Wellington, New Zealand. His research interests have included extensive travel in the southern half of Africa, the Middle East and the Western Pacific. He has written numerous scientific and popular publications and co-authored several books on human geography, ethno botany and tree flora. He is the author of 17 described, tree and lily species. When not studying or researching he enjoys photography, painting birds and plants, scuba diving, running, bird watching and tramping. Fanie is currently working as a botanical and environmental consultant in the Western Pacific and Australia, where he lives near the Great Barrier Reef in Tropical Queensland.

Julye-Ann Venter

Julye-Ann grew up in Southern Africa and has had a keen interest in plants and their cultivation from an early age. She is a qualified Horticulturist with extensive experience in running her own indigenous plant nursery in South Africa and a nursery specializing in large trees in New Zealand. She is currently living in Tropical North Queensland, Australia where she has started up a nursery specializing in the growing and hybridizing of Clivia. She loves tramping in the Tropical Rainforests and particularly enjoys the orchid and palm flora and the colourful bird species. Other pursuits include scuba diving on the Barrier Reef and keeping fit.
